![]() And my whole central air system installed was $2300 16 years ago. So I fixed mine for $10 myself by searching the internet. Another $100 is barely 4% of what they're asking. For that kind of money, might be worth looking to find (by luck of getting someone not primarily interested in buttering their own bread) a better/more honest possibly estimate. I'd at least try another small outfit co. mercy-and I don't believe they have any, as a whole. Might be only the start/run capacitor-$10. Kind of a freak that compressor only lasted 5-6 years. Probably a needle in a haystack, but you don't know if you don't ask. You didn't by chance charge it to a credit card that extends the warranty an extra year and hopefully that isn't expired as well. Lennox Merit? I thought 10 years was industry standard, but looks like they've gone airline baggage route. The people who answer the phone at a couple of other companies can't give quotes, and the people who can, are usually out doing service calls. One company does not want to give a phone quote unless they send someone to look at the AC unit at a cost of $100. Is this a reasonable price? I tried to get more quotes from local HVAC companies. ![]() I was quoted a total cost of $2300 including all parts/labor. My current AC unit is a 5-ton Lennox, bought in 2012. Also need to get new refrigerant/filter as part of the job. ![]() A repairman came and told me that the AC compressor needs to be replaced. ![]()
